Welome! I always have a lot to do in the autumn before the winter snow, cold, sleet, cold, freezing rain, ice… did I say cold? Just not a fan of winter weather in the central Midwest. So I made a list below to explain a little about what we’re doing in this video. Just like the garden removal video, I was too tired to explain it as I worked. 😊
TRIM BUSHES
This was actually supposed to be bushes and fruit trees but since one of my children misplaced the branch clippers, tree trimming was a no-go. I admit, there were tears and I’m pretty positive the clippers are buried underneath one of the wood chip mounds. So after we looked for about a half hour, we gave up because there were so many other things to do. As for the bushes, I clip them because I read that arborvitaes will grow wider and fill out if the tops stay trimmed. And since I planted them for privacy, I trim them a couple of times a year. They’re definitely fuller… now that we’re moving. LOL! 😂
PLANT GRASS SEED
This is the one thing on this day that I didn’t have to do. Mainly because it’s super easy and they all love riding the mower. They started by raking and since that involved too much muscle,😊 they pulled out the aerator. We just needed to loosen the soil a little so that the seeds didn’t just lay on the surface. Also because tilling would have been overkill and soften the surface too much. Then William watered it all. Unfortunately we had a frost the next day so we may have to replant in the spring. 😣
ROLL FENCE & STORE POSTS
After removing the garden, I needed to get the fence and posts put away but I wanted to wait until the weeds died so that they would be easier to pull off the fence. It worked but it was still a challenge. It probably looks like the easiest project of the day but in reality, that and hauling wood chips were the most exhausting.
BUILD PUPPY RUN
My daughter’s dog is a small breed and so will have difficulties trudging through many feet of snow, soaked cold grass and icy surfaces just to go to the bathroom in the winter. So I decided to fence off an area that she can run around in safely in the winter. We added the wood chips because our yard gets soaked too and the wood chips raise up the ground, keeping her safely away from all that. ❤️
COVER KITCHEN GARDEN
The thought of removing the garden was really sad for me so I decided to keep the kitchen garden. It’s very small and shouldn’t effect the selling of the house. I plan on only planting spinach, kale, lettuce and other greens in that space in the spring so it should be really pretty. Maybe even some flowers! 🌸 I covered it with wood mulch for insulation and so in the early spring, I’ll rake it back and plant the greens. 🌿😍
WEED STRAWBERRY PATCH
Half way through and my daughter tells me that strawberries don’t need to be weeded. LOL! I’ve always had strawberries but never this many so I’m not an expert. So I had no idea if what she said was true or not. But I decided to believe her… having nothing to do with being exhausted 😁… I finished up the more obvious weeds, some of the edges, mowed the frame and called it a day. 🤗
That’s it for today!

Why do you and your lovely daughters wear dresses instead of slacks or jeans? Because of religion? Just curious. Love your videos and your values.
I wear cotton pants all the time. 😊 But I try not to wear too much denim. https://alternative-doctor.com/body-stuff/do-your-jeans-and-other-fabrics-contain-hazardous-chemicals/

I love watching you video’s you are inspiring.
Our family consists of myself and six foster children, no biological. I forget regularly that I didn’t make them.
They are the light of my life.
We have begun following a minimalist lifestyle and have just purchased our first vitamix.
Can’t wait to see what your new home and area looks like.
Feel blessed to be able to watch you and your families new adventure begin.
Thank you for your kind comment Ruth!
We have a large patio, and as I was weeding it today, I was ready to give up. But I thought, “Nope, Darci would get on and just get it done. You can do it too.” Its a LARGE area, so I haven’t managed to complete it, but I shall keep returning it to, chipping away and improving.
Hahaha! You know me well Maghouin! 😁 But like you said, it doesn’t need to be done all at once. A little a day will do! 😘
